This is a fine example of Chinese Pewter. It
is a lidded bowl made from fine pewter. This supple material was
very popular with metal artists in the late 19th century. This unusual
vessel was painstakingly made with ornate appliqué decoration on
the bowl as well as the perfectly fitting lid. The artist made settings
for cabs of gemstones into the designs. Some appear to be jade while
a couple are unidentifiable but beautiful. The Bowl sits a nice 5"
in diameter and about 4" tall. It is in amazing condition with only
a tiny flaw on the lip of the bowl hidden when lidded (see bottom pic).
Estimated circa 1900 or earlier.
